Here are some 'before' pics of my kitchen before we moved in to our current 'rented' home. The owners had to switch out the refrigerator as the original one did not get cold. The replacement is larger, but it's harvest gold.....one of my future projects is to paint it white to match the range.
You can see that there wasn't much counter or cabinet space. So one of the first things I did was to go to my local ReStore and find a base cabinet ($20) to fit between the stove and refrigerator. It was pretty shabby and dirty, I couldn't decide what color I wanted to paint it, so I used contact paper ($5) instead. A 'thrifty' $25 total! Saaweet!!!
Note**.... notice the new hardware! I bought a bag of these 'nifty' handles at a yard sale many, many years ago. I still have six left in bag for future projects. You may also notice the toaster oven on top of the microwave....hey it works for me***we all improvise...right?

Love how your cabinet turned out plus you can take it with you. We have always lived in military housing or mobile homes so I know the challenges.
ReplyDeleteThanks Donnie...nice to know someone knows the challenges of not being a homeowner. There are a few benefits to renting, which is good with the real estate market as it is. I'm sure glad we didn't find a house to buy six years ago when we moved from Oklahoma to Arizona. Sticker shock in the vast price difference between the two states were initially what made us drag our feet...could probably find some good deals now, but we sorta enjoy the freedom of being able to 'pick-up and move' if necessary. Prior to this home rental, we were in a VERY nice, new cabin just north of Flagstaff, AZ, San Francisco Peaks view out my kitchen window (foot of mountains about a mile away). Then on Fathers Day, 2010, a camper didn't put out his campfire well enough and all the mountains on our side burned...then in July, monsoons come every year here...all of our area was flooded almost daily. It didn't get inside our home, but roads were washed out ALL THE TIME. Felt so bad for the property owners who had to stay there knowing it will be years before things will be normal again. Wow, I can ramble ....sorry...it's just nice to have new friends! I visited your page yesterday and 'followed'...then today the 'follow' button was showing up again. It made me sign in ..even tho I was signed in to Google...(Blogger & GMail). Found that rather odd. No biggie though. Thanks again for your comment.
